We have a rare opportunity available to join our whanau as a Human Factors Safety Specialist.

The Flight Safety team is part of the Operational Integrity and Safety Centre of Excellence. The key responsibilities of the role are to provide subject matter through a human factors lens, as well as leading and participating operational safety investigations. You will be part of a diverse team, with no two days being the same. You will quickly learn the business and be an integral part of ensuring Air New Zealand continues to operate safely. 

 Key outputs:

  • Manage and communicate quality, operational safety, and business improvement opportunities to achieve a world-class safety management system.
  • Act as a human factors subject matter expert to provide specialist education, data and investigation input to operational areas of the company and external aviation organisations to enable risk-based, informed decisions that support business objectives.
  • Review and recommend continuous improvement of operational safety processes and procedures, identifying preventative measures
  • Develop and deliver quality/safety systems training to support staff in achieving business objectives while maintaining high safety standards
  • Identify and avoid hazards, ensuring hazard rectification and compliance with reporting procedures.
  • Analyze and investigate operational safety occurrences to identify root causes of performance deficiencies, and review processes and data to recommend continuous improvements for efficient service and safety programs
  • Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to identify and manage hazards and deliver timely analysis and presentations to support risk-based decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver analysis of safety issues, reports and presentations to ensure accurate and timely data is available and communicated to support risk-based business decision making.
  • Review draft reports and request /make revisions to ensure required standards are met, and human factors considerations are represented adequately.

Our ideal candidate:

  • You must have Academic Human Factors Qualifications to be considered.
  • You have the stature, knowledge, personality and communication skills to rapidly gain credibility with business managers and to influence decision makers regarding improvement initiatives.
  • You’re a practitioner of all elements of Safety Management System specifically element 4- Hazard Identification, element 5- Risk Management, element 6 – Investigation and Reporting and element 10 – Audit
  • Practitioner in application of the Reason Model, Just Culture Algorithm, Incident Cause Analysis Method and Maintenance Error Decision Aid to investigate root causes and analyse human and organisational factors aspects of incidents and accidents
  • Proficient practitioner in investigation management and investigation protocol best practises including normalisation of deviance and the breakdown of complex systems, and establishing risk levels for occurrences, causal factors and latent failures
