Dr Fiona Trevelyan

Dr Fiona Trevelyan is the National Lead – Moving and Handling at Health NZ where she leads the implementation of a systems approach to reduce worker and patient exposure to risk associated with patient and object handling tasks. Fiona has extensive experience in the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in healthcare and established and led the interprofessional undergraduate programme for moving and handling at AUT before coming to Health NZ. Fiona is a Certified Member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of NZ, leads the Healthcare Special Interest Group and is on the HASANZ professional register.

Dr Nicola Green

Dr Nicola Green is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at Massey University, a Certified Human Factors and Ergonomics Professional (CNZHFE) and a research consultant.

Her work interests include the impact of the introduction of technologies on the work system, systems thinking, and HFE education. Beyond work, Nic runs, walks, swims and attends the Pub Quiz in her local area on Whakaraupō - Lyttelton Harbour.

Dr Jo Wailling

Dr Jo Wailling RN TechNZHFE AMDRAS founded Restorative Responses in 2023. With thirty years of experience in health and disability settings, Jo has spent the last decade co-designing, operationalising and researching complex programmes and the relational contribution to safety, harm, and justice.

She collaborates globally on restorative systems, is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at AIHI, Co-Chair of the National Collaborative for Restorative Initiatives in Health NZ, and a member of the Resilient Healthcare Society.

Dr Carl Horsley

Dr. Carl Horsley is a dual trained Intensive Care Specialist working at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Within this role, his focus has been on the practical application of Resilience Engineering and Human Factors in healthcare settings This includes work exploring how these concepts reshape our approaches to simulation, adverse event review and work design. Carl completed his MSc in Human Factors & System Safety at Lund University in Sweden with a thesis exploring the sociology of healthcare safety.  

He is also employed as the Clinical Lead - System Safety at Te Tāhū Hauora (Health Quality Safety Commission), working to introduce modern safety science into the national policy space. This work aims to shape the safety ecosystem of healthcare in Aotearoa New Zealand, building system that, at all levels, supports good care.
